Creating a Backup Task

This guide walks you through creating a new backup task to automatically backup your R2 bucket data to your local machine.

Before you begin, you’ll need:

Click on the Backups tab in the main navigation.

Click the New Backup button to open the backup configuration dialog.

Choose which R2 bucket you want to backup from the R2 Bucket dropdown.

Enter a name for the backup task. The default name is auto-generated from your bucket name, this can be changed to anything you prefer.

By default, R2Clone will backup your entire bucket. If you only want to backup a specific folder:

  1. Click Entire Bucket to open the folder select dialog
  2. Browse the folder tree and select a specific folder
  3. Click Select Folder to confirm

Choose the frequency you want backups to run.

  • Hourly: Backups run every hour
  • Daily: Backups run once per day at a specific time
  • Weekly: Backups run once per week on a specific day and time

Configure how many backup copies to keep. Older backups are automatically deleted when this limit is reached. The default value is 7.

Selecting No Retention Limit will keep all backups forever and not enforce a retention policy.

Once you’ve configured all settings, click Create Backup Job.

The backup task is now created and will run according to the schedule you set. You can also run it manually at any time.
