Creating a Backup Task
This guide walks you through creating a new backup task to automatically backup your R2 bucket data to your local machine.
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”Before you begin, you’ll need:
- One or more R2 buckets configured
- A backup location set in Settings
1. Navigate to the Backups Page
Section titled “1. Navigate to the Backups Page”Click on the Backups tab in the main navigation.
2. Click “New Backup”
Section titled “2. Click “New Backup””Click the New Backup button to open the backup configuration dialog.
3. Select Your R2 Bucket
Section titled “3. Select Your R2 Bucket”Choose which R2 bucket you want to backup from the R2 Bucket dropdown.
4. Name Your Backup Task
Section titled “4. Name Your Backup Task”Enter a name for the backup task. The default name is auto-generated from your bucket name, this can be changed to anything you prefer.
5. Choose Source Folder
Section titled “5. Choose Source Folder”By default, R2Clone will backup your entire bucket. If you only want to backup a specific folder:
- Click Entire Bucket to open the folder select dialog
- Browse the folder tree and select a specific folder
- Click Select Folder to confirm
6. Configure Backup Schedule
Section titled “6. Configure Backup Schedule”Choose the frequency you want backups to run.
- Hourly: Backups run every hour
- Daily: Backups run once per day at a specific time
- Weekly: Backups run once per week on a specific day and time
7. Set Retention Policy
Section titled “7. Set Retention Policy”Configure how many backup copies to keep. Older backups are automatically deleted when this limit is reached. The default value is 7.
Selecting No Retention Limit will keep all backups forever and not enforce a retention policy.
8. Create the Backup Job
Section titled “8. Create the Backup Job”Once you’ve configured all settings, click Create Backup Job.
The backup task is now created and will run according to the schedule you set. You can also run it manually at any time.
