Getting Started

R2Clone is a cross-platform application built using Rclone that provides blazing-fast automatic backups from your Cloudflare R2 buckets to local or network storage.

How R2Clone Works

R2Clone simplifies the backup process into a straightforward workflow:

1. Provide your Cloudflare R2 credentials (access key, secret key, endpoint, and bucket name). R2Clone securely stores these credentials and verifies the connection to ensure everything is configured correctly.

2. Create a Backup Task: A backup task defines what you want to backup (which R2 bucket) and where you want to store it (local folder, external drive, or network share). You can create multiple backup tasks for different buckets or backup destinations.

3. R2Clone backups follow a precise workflow:

Pre-Scan Phase: R2Clone scans your R2 bucket to calculate the total number of files and total size. This ensures accurate progress tracking without jumps or surprises.
Transfer Phase: Files are downloaded from R2 to your chosen local destination using rclone’s optimized sync engine.
Progress Tracking: Watch real-time updates showing files transferred, transfer speed, percentage complete, and estimated time remaining. See the Backups History tab for details on monitoring active backups.
Completion: Once finished, R2Clone records the backup completion with full metrics including total files, total size, and duration.
Cleanup: Retention policies automatically clean up old backups based on your policy setting you configure for each task.
